Client Background
Glass perfume bottles customize became an essential requirement of one independent niche perfume studio created in Grasse, France, of handcrafted botanical fragrance collections that were being sold in concept stores and at boutique perfumeries. To create packaging in line with their minimalistic, yet artistic, brand, the studio collaborated with Vesseluxe, a professional glass perfume bottles factory, to create a suitable packaging.
They ordered a 50ml clear glass perfume bottle with a slightly rounded rectangular shape, a gradient frost finish on the hand by spraying, and a magnetic cap of natural beechwood with a precision spray pump. The gradient frost has been selected because of the brand idea of fragrance that appeared out of mist and the wooden cap was a reminder of their devotion to natural and environmentally-friendly design concepts. They chose Vesseluxe due to its high end surface finishing and the ability to be customized easily and the consistency in their production to allow the launching of fragrances at boutique scale.

Challenges
- The attainment of consistent gradient frosting on several production batches without visual array of color.

Result
Our engineering and quality control team found that the gradient frosting would need tight timings and control of the sandblasting pressure, which would not be the same across several production cycles. Also, natural wood caps are likely to experience slight dimensional changes which may influence the compatibility of the spray components. To address these problems, we repeatedly tested the stability of the material and developed the specifications of the finishing process parameters to make them consistent.

- Created standardized frosting calibration procedures to ensure the same gradient transitions between batches.
- Added humid storage and tightening of wooden caps to keep them the same size.
- Carried out multi-stage spray performance testing, which involves pressure, sealing and durability tests.
- Offered prototyping samples in large numbers to enable confirmation of design to proceed with mass production.
Result
The tailored perfume bottles were a success when they were introduced together with the seasonal fragrance in the studio with heavy positive responses given by retailers and customers. The bottles made the brand more recognisable and more attractive on shelves, which led to a 30 percent rise in reorders at the bottles in the boutiques within six months.
